The Executive Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele (BSA), has charged security operatives to intensify efforts towards safeguarding lives and property. He also stressed the need to strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders to tackle emerging security challenges across the council area.
He gave the charge at the 4th Edition of the Annual Stakeholders’ Security Summit organised by the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Imota Command, on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
The summit, which was themed, “Intelligence Gathering at the Grassroots: From Gossip to Useful Security Information,” aimed at promoting effective grassroots intelligence, community participation and improved security across Imota LCDA.

Speaking at the event, Hon. BSA pointed out that security remains a collective responsibility that requires the active participation and cooperation of government, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, youths and residents. He noted that a peaceful and secure environment is fundamental to sustainable development, economic growth and the overall well-being of the people.
The council chairman commended the leadership and personnel of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps at both the divisional and Imota Command for their dedication, sacrifices and continued contributions to maintaining law and order across communities within the LCDA. He urged them to remain vigilant, professional and proactive in discharging their duties, particularly through effective intelligence gathering and timely responses to potential security threats.

Hon. BSA also called for stronger synergy among security agencies and community stakeholders, stressing that credible information sharing, sustained community engagement and grassroots intelligence are critical to preventing criminal activities. He encouraged residents to support security operatives by promptly reporting suspicious movements and providing reliable information that could assist in identifying and addressing potential threats.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and properties, the chairman pledged sustained and increased support for security agencies through the provision of necessary logistics, operational assistance and other relevant interventions within available resources. He assured stakeholders that his administration would continue to prioritise initiatives aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of security personnel and enhancing their effectiveness across the council area.

He further emphasised the need for parents, religious leaders, traditional rulers and community-based organisations to take active roles in promoting discipline, responsible citizenship and peaceful coexistence, particularly among young people.
According to him, tackling insecurity requires more than enforcement measures, as deliberate efforts must also be directed towards addressing its underlying social and economic causes through youth engagement, empowerment and community development programmes.
The summit provided a platform for stakeholders to review existing security strategies, identify emerging challenges and deliberate on practical measures to strengthen the security architecture of Imota LCDA. Participants also shared observations and recommendations while exploring ways to deepen collaboration between the council administration, security agencies and community representatives in building a safer and more secure Imota.
